Essential Questions to Ask Before Your Bathroom Renovation

Here are some frequently asked questions.

Before diving into tile samples and fixture catalogues, let’s ensure your renovation addresses the right problems. We ask every North Shore client these critical questions during our initial consultation:

GET A QUOTE - FAST

Is your bathroom functional?

Does the layout work for your family’s needs, or do you find yourself constantly frustrated by poor design choices?

Is the vanity in the right place?

Can two people use the bathroom simultaneously during morning routines? Is the vanity positioned where you actually need it?

Is there enough light (especially on the mirror)?

Poor bathroom lighting is frustrating for makeup application, shaving, and general visibility. Proper mirror lighting transforms functionality.

Do all the plumbing fittings work properly?

Dripping taps, inconsistent water temperature, weak shower pressure—these aren’t just annoyances, they’re symptoms of ageing plumbing that should be addressed during renovation.

Is the toilet flushing correctly?

Modern dual-flush toilets are more water-efficient and reliable than older models. If your toilet needs frequent repairs, replacement during renovation makes sense.

Is the shower big enough?

Many older North Shore bathrooms have cramped 900mm showers. Modern families need space—1200mm or larger showers make a dramatic difference to comfort.

Is the vanity the right size?

Do you have adequate counter space for toiletries, or is everything crammed into tiny corners? Storage matters more than most people realise.

Is there enough storage?

Most families underestimate bathroom storage needs. Toiletries, cleaning products, towels, and personal items accumulate quickly. Smart storage solutions prevent cluttered counters.

Are all the drains working efficiently?

Slow drains indicate blockages or poor drainage design. A renovation is the perfect time to fix drainage problems permanently.
