Bathroom remodel process
IMPORTANT: You must have all the new bathroom items before starting the renovation. Especially the heated towel rail. The tradesman cannot know where to put the plumbing and mounting timber inside the wall if he does not have access to the items to be installed. Bear in mind that a difference of 1 cm can sometimes cost hundreds of dollars if not in the correct place at the time of installation.
Step 1: Removal
Renovation starts by removing all the old items and wall boards to allow access to the plumbing.
Step 4: Timber
Timber is put inside the wall at the correct locations for screw fixing later.
Any rotten timber is cut out and replaced. Depending on the extent of rot, this can be a considerable task.
Step 7: Painting
Next is painting. Usually done in one day including window and door frames, skirtings, architraves, walls and ceilings. Choose your colours well in advance.
Step 2: Plumbing
The plumbing is altered inside the wall and under the floor to suit the layout of the new bathroom fittings.
Step 5: Flooring
Flooring is installed and wall boarding is affixed. If you are planning on tiling the walls, check what wall boarding is suitable for the weight of the selected tiles.
Step 8: Tiling
Tiling is next. For floors, the tiler will only require 4 days. For walls and floors, the tiler will need 6 to 7 days, depending upon the size and extent of the area of the wall to be tiled.
Step 3: Electrical
Electricians will work simultaneously as the plumber to prewire to exact locations for later fixing.
Step 6: Gib Stopping
Gib stoppers come next, and depending on the weather, will require up to 4 days. At this time, very little else can be done, but we are getting close.
Step 9: Final Installation
Finally, the final installation of fittings, which will take up to 2 days, requires the plumber, shower installer, builder and electrician to be in the bathroom doing their part.
